Frequently asked questions

Alberta uses brackets of 8%, 10%, 12%, 13%, 14% and 15%, with the 8% rate on the first ~$60,000 and a basic personal amount of $22,769 for 2026.

Ontario has brackets of 5.05% to 13.16% with a $12,989 basic personal amount, then adds a surtax on higher provincial tax (20% over $5,818 plus a further 36% over $7,446) and an income-tested health premium of up to $900. The calculator includes both on top of the bracket tax.

Your marginal rate is the tax on your next dollar of income; your average rate is total tax divided by total income. The calculator shows both, combining federal and provincial tax.
