Working Capital

Working capital is current assets minus current liabilities: the short-term funds a business has available to meet day-to-day obligations such as payroll, suppliers and rent. Positive working capital signals liquidity; negative or thin working capital can mean cash-flow strain even when a company is profitable. Managing it well, through receivables, inventory and payables, is central to financial stability.
