Small Business Deduction (SBD)
The Small Business Deduction lowers the federal corporate tax rate to 9% (2026) on the first $500,000 of active business income earned by a Canadian-controlled private corporation, instead of the 15% general rate. Provinces add their own reduced small-business rate, such as Alberta's 2%. The deduction is reduced for larger or associated corporations. See our Alberta corporate tax guide.
