Record of Employment (ROE)

A Record of Employment documents an employee's work history and earnings whenever there is an interruption of earnings — a layoff, a leave, or a termination. Service Canada uses the ROE to decide whether the worker qualifies for Employment Insurance and how much they receive, so accuracy and timing both matter. Employers must issue it within set deadlines after the last day for which the employee is paid, even when the departure is amicable. We cover ROEs alongside the rest of the payroll cycle in our Alberta payroll guide.
