Job Costing

Job costing is the practice of tracking labour, materials, subcontractor and overhead costs against an individual project or job so a contractor can see whether that specific job is actually profitable. It is central to construction and other project-based accounting, where margins can vary sharply from one job to the next inside the same company, and it is the data behind an accurate percentage of completion calculation. Our construction and trades accounting page covers how job costing supports project-level decisions.
